Hello,
My 951 deck got stuck with the cassette head in the middle position and wouldn’t retract back to allow the cassette to move down.
After disassembling it, I found this grooved gearwheel behind the belt rollers that drives the head mechanism.
Do you know the correct position before installing the belt rollers?
I would like to give you a hiint . There is a file called circuit descripition you can download from the 951 page within DCC Museum. Go to page 19 In the mech chapter there are pictures of the gearwheel corresponding to various function states of the drive. You will have to put the mechanics and head into a defined state and compare gearwheel etc. to the pictures. Dont force or it will break. I had to do this once and used the play state in one direction but i remenber it was my 900.
Hope this helps a bit

Hello,
First, thanks for tips and posts of past to located the correct head mechanism on place but… Head mechanism don’t move to play tape.
After compared with another drive mechanism from other 951 equipment I detected that, when turn on this failed 951, the motor of capstan don’t move at all.
All this blocked situation happens when I turn on the equipment pressing play button.
Something happens.
I don’t have electronic knowledge to check the electric circuit.
Could the motor of capstan have done a circuit short and damaged?
I had one time a defective winding motor and two times a defective gearwheel due to wrong axle hole diameter. No defective capstan motor up to now. I assume you have checked the belt and it s way. I suggest to check voltage on your capstan motor when trying to play.
Wish You luck
Michael
