Technics RS DC10

Hi. I have a Technics RS-DC10, in beautiful condition. It plays and records DCC cassettes, but has a problem with CC cassettes. One channel only plays, the other is silent. I replaced the capacitors with new ones, and still nothing. I should add that I have two of these DCC cassettes, and both have the same problems.

Honestly, I would open the champagne and get any half-decent CC-set on the side. Analog tape is really horrible for irreplaceable DCC heads.

Yes, I know that CC cassettes degrade the heads. I don’t intend to play these cassettes, only DCC ones. I just wanted a working RS-DC10.

Hi And Welcome,

Most likely there is either still a problem in the Read-Write board or the head is defect.

We can rather quickly test the RW board problem as we have upgraded/new ones if you are interested. We no longer restore old RW boards .

Hi Ralf, what is the cost of such a service? I need to consider whether to invest in it. I live in Switzerland, so shipping to the US will be expensive and the waiting period long.

Service mode and error F9, CC cassette.

The DCC cassette has no errors.

This is just update reading digital forms, you would in theory need a much more involved procedure for CC as outlined in the service manual.

Today, I spent almost the entire day troubleshooting. It worked, it works 100 percent. The PCB traces were damaged in several places.

I spent a long time looking through the RS DC10 schematic. Multimeter in hand, searching the PCB. I found a few broken traces. I connected them, applied solder masking, and everything returned to normal. Now I have two fully functional DCC Technics. It’s worth the time.
