When trying to play, fast forward or rewind both digital and analog tapes get “chewed” and stop the player. When cassettes are removed, the tape is twisted and stuck in the winding mechanism. Any clues to the possible cause please?

Probably you need to replace the pinch rollers.

What type of dcc player are you using?

DCC600 but temporarily out of use and out for assessment of repair requirements.
I am hoping repairs will be limited to belt set, gear set and pinch roller set. Anything else might be problematic.
