It’s a bit of a stupid question but as a feeling of asking it can you record over pre-recorded DCC tapes like you can do with normal ones?
Thanks

Hi and welcome,
There are no stupid questions on this forum lol.
You can’t (easily) record over pre-recorded dcc. It would require serious modding. The easiest way is to mod your dcc deck, by letting it think it is a recordable. But even then, you would not be able to easily erase the existing content as the existing recorded bias is higher vs the new recording. There will still be itts information at least. Question. Why would you undertake this?

Hi ddc museum.
The reason , I’m asking this question is a recently got mine DCC machine from eBay and luckily it was in good working order however when looking for tapes to record on I find that they are very hard or very expensive to find but there’s a lot of listings for pre-recorded DCc I want you to ask the question. I saw your video on how to modify a normal cassette tape to think that it’s a DCc but is anyone selling that adapter that helped you make it into a DCC?
Thanks
I mean with pre-recorded, the officially released albums on DCC.
If you mean recordables, that now are recorded by the previous owner, you can go ahead and record over them. All it takes is a new recording.
And first bulb erase the tape? I think I successfully did that to pre-recorded tapes.
It has been almost 30 years, but from what I remember it was quite easy to use pre-recorded tapes are recordable tapes. I got DCC in 1997 and back then the empty tapes were around 18 hfl and pre-recorded tapes could be bought 3 for 10 hfl (a bit less then 5 euro) at the DCC Gold Club. Me and a classmate just made a hole in the pre recorded tapes if I remember right and used them. We even printed our own new artwork.
I wasn’t able to find any info on the DCC Gold Club on the entire internet, maybe you want to tell us about it?
I bought my DCC after the official discontinuation, I am from 1981 and rember the official charts in the beginning mentioning albums which were an available on Minidisc and DCC. When DCC systems got much cheaper after being discontinued by Philips I bought a deck and portable in 1997.
When buying it there was information included how to order albums directly from Philips, I think it was a Gold Club like they also had for CDi. As I was late too the game, by the time I joined they only had sales albums left, but they were damn cheap. Sadly I don’t have anything left from these days myself.
