My recorder plays normal cassette tape with no problem but when I try and play dcc tape I get a clean head message or the sounds dips in and out or sounds goes silent. Why is doing this ?

Most likely the player needs new pinch rollers.
Also never play regular cassettes as they will damage the head. The residue coming from regular tapes also prevents DCC playback.
