Hello, new to the forum and recently had my DCC900 serviced with new read/write pcb., recapped digital pcb, and new pinch roller and belts. However, unit does not appear to write the TOC. Manual track marker are accepted and incremental added to a recording but upon a finished recording, waiting, rewinding and pressing the number 2 to advance to track 2, the No TOC info is displayed. I have tried three different tapes (Maxell 90, Phillips 60 and Panasonic 90) with the same result. I have also tried the renumbering function and the unit scans and find all track markers, but again results in no TOC info. Has anyone experienced a similar issue and manage to resolve the problem?
Welcome to the forum, does it read it properly on pre-recorded tapes?
This is actually explained in a service bulletin. Originally, it was the intention that user-recorded DCC’s would have a Table of Contents at the beginning of side A. That way, if you would insert a cassette that was rewound to the beginning of side A, it would be possible to search by track number just like it’s possible to do this on prerecorded cassettes.
However, this feature was canceled because there was not enough space in the ROM of the microcontroller that’s used for the DCC900 to store the program to do this. When they removed the feature, they accidentally forgot that the “NO TOC INFO” error message now doesn’t make sense anymore. You can still use the track-forward and track-reverse search of course but you can’t search for a specific track number.

Jac, Thank you so much. That explains a lot. I thought I might be having issues with the DCC 900 behavior. Can titles still be added to tracks on non prerecorded tapes? -Ed
I haven’t purchased a pre-recorded tape, yet. But hope to try it soon.
Titles can only be added by 3rd generation recorders (and with the RC-DC8 which allows adding up to 4 titles). Earlier recorders won’t show the titles.
