Modification to the DCC600 Mechanism

Has anyone seen this modification before on a Philips DCC600?
It is a early version 1993 week 05 and the first time we see the extra metal bracket supporting the mechanism. A great idea. Wonder why they abandoned

it.

If you ask me… that doesn’t look factory.
But there are people who buy things, open it up and modify… I know a few. And they come up with surprising things! So who knows is this the handy work of a tinkerer…

To some people it might be obvious, but I must be missing something
Why is this so special? Does it prevent the mechanism from breaking? What’s it’s purpose?

The mechanism is more secured with this extra bracket.

It also might introduce some vibration from the transformer into the mechanism… that might be the reason why (if factory) they abandoned it?
