I managed to get the red light, but no audio came through.
Is there anything obvious I should check?

Does you amplifier have a display? If yes, does it provide any information?
The read light indicates, power is there. What else did you try to connect it to?

In case you didn’t find a solution yet, the DCC730 and DCC951 are known for dry joint soldering on the PCB at all connectors at the backside.
