DCC900 playing but no recording?

I can buy a DCC900, $100, RW board has been overhauled, new capacitors, plays DCC well but cannot record. Is this a hopeless mission?
Is there anything that can be repaired?

Usually the RW board is the problem.
If the head can record, our new RW board could fix this.

but can I assume that the head is still good?

You can also try to check if all the tracks of the ribbon cable of the head (that comes to the RW board from the head) are OK and there is no breakage. The even one from 2 to 20 are responsible for recording.

You can’t assume that. It would need to be tested with a working RW board.
