DCC600 scraping noise every second

Hi,

I just replaced the gear and the belts on a DCC600. During playback, after a few seconds it starts to make a short scraping sound every second, but only on side A, side B works perfectly. Audio is fine on both sides. Does anybody have any ideas how I can fix this?

Kind regards,
Eric

Nobody?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated…

Is it the same with all tapes?

Felt pads could be the culprit:

Hi Eric,

I can’t imagine what it sounds like. Could be the capstan belt or bearing.
Would it be of value to post a short movie so we can hear it too?

It’s not a tape issue, it happens with all tapes…

Hi,
Sounds like the new gear is not perfect or perfect in place.
This could happen when the two copper pins left and right might have fallen out during the install.

Thanks for the reply. I always make sure both copper cylinders are in place, but always good to double-check if that’s the issue.

About the gear: if it’s not perfect (and nowadays they are less than stellar…) wouldn’t that cause the same issue on side B? It really only happens on side A, and only after about 20-30 seconds…

Very common to have this problem only on one side only.
If it is the gear, it will soon become worse and possibly also effect the other side.

If you say nowadays. I assume you have done multiple?

Yes, I think I have done revisions on about 50 DCC gen2 machines. Gears used to be perfect, nowadays it’s very much hit and miss.
But this is a first for me…
