DCC 951 records great but the play is very bad

Hi there

My dcc machine records great can listen to the music as it recording with no hiccups . How ever when playing the tapes back it jumps and sometimes stops and rewinds it self .

What wrong with it

Which model number/generation is it? Could be a whole number of issues.

It’s a Phillips dcc 951 not sure of the generation

Ahh ok, I added the model number and generation to the title so other volunteers can find it more easily.

There one wired thing I uv print .and I uv printed on a few tapes and when i put them in the machine they play back ok but I put a tape that not uv printed it does work it struggles. Why can this be .

A quick question too what would happen if a put rubbing alcohol in the tape casing ?

Could be several things.

  • Bad felt pad (see stick slip effect on our YT channel).
  • Tape is damaged on that spot, causing the player to go from side a-b. The damage usually comes from it just sitting there, without being rewinded correctly for years. But it could also be that if you UV print on a tape not being rewinded first, dirt could transfer to the tape.
