Dcc 175 with faulty smc's

Although not common, I recently purchased a as good as new Dcc175. After replacing the belt I started using it and noticed that the left channel was somewhat distorted and also a bit lower in volume… I had a audioboard laying around from a dead 170 so I desoldered the smc’s and replaced them on the 175. The problem went away…
It might be that the problem arose from lying abandoned for decades, but it also might be that 3rd gen recorders start acting up. So WARNING!
if your 170 or 175 is starting to sound off… stop using it! You might kill the head! Replace the caps or have them replaced… the heads in these machines are something else and very rare indeed…
