730 and 951 parts swap

Can you use a read/write board from a 730 in a 951? How about other boards and head?

The 730 and 951 are identical except for the ESI bits connectors and the display. So yes you should be able to exchange read/write boards and everything else on the mechanism. It’s probably easier to exchange the entire mechanism though.

What are you trying to accomplish?

I have both a 730 and 931 with different problems, hopefully make one good DCC.

Hi @ivanr , I have done this in the past, 730 into a 951 chassis, all you lose is the ESI bus connection that assume 99% of users will never use. I believe the mains transformer mount is better in the 730 chassis. I will see if I can find some pictures, best way to explain!

That would be great. I would love to get my 931 working again. It was my favorite. Still plays but with a lot of dropouts. I am not good at replacing tiny SMD capacitors. It is very easy to break the contacts with the board.

I did the part swaps and was able to determine it is the head that went bad.
